Las Semillitas

For the last few months, we've had the great blessing of being in Miss Natalie's Spanish class with Las Semillitas de Espanol.  The boys look forward to it every week!  Natalie is flat out brilliant as an educator, and I'm learning just as much watching the way she teaches (everything through music and nonverbal cues - it's so surprising how much we understand.)  I wonder if my Spanish prof had sung to us if I might have eeked out a C or B in college Spanish!

Pax is the oldest in the class, so he gets to be the "helper" - she gives him instructions all in Spanish and he helps passing out supplies, putting things away, etc.  He loves it, loves telling everyone Adios and giving "chocolas" (high fives)

We have lots of fun songs now we sing around the house to practice.  It was a great first foreign language experience and hopefully a little vocabulary foundation we can keep building on at home!

RO-BOT

Quiet time has become Pax's project time each day.  Today I gave him some random things from the kitchen, oatmeal cannister, paper towel tubes, empty spice bottles...and he went and spent a few hours in his room, only coming out to ask for help cutting tape every now and then.

He was so proud of the Robot he designed!  We had to photograph it so he could show all his family.

Blocks

These blocks get so much love from these two boys.  I love watching them build.  And helping them learn some building ethics (These sweet photos were all taken just before they crashed each others' towers and both burst into tears...)

Cocoons, Butterflies, and Camoflaged Elephants

"Come find us, mama, we're going to be butterflies hatching from cocoons!"

Now come find us....we're elephants....camoflaged elephants
Can you find the elephant in his habitat?

Pinewood Boat Regatta

A fun little contest we happened upon at Old Settler's park this weekend...the boys designed their boat and took turns racing other kiddos.

No Training Wheels!!

In classic RPM style, Pax woke up today and declared today is the day he will ride with no training wheels.  So after naptime, we tried it.  We took them off, helmeted up, I pushed him off, and he did it!  He kept going, all the way down our driveway, into the grass, into our neighbor's driveway....first time.  He called his daddy, and Alan came home from work to watch him a few times.  I was pushing him off, but he was riding....fast.  He had so much fun - he showed our neighbor Jim, and the Boutwells (his Sunday school teachers) when they drove by.  He was really excited.

This evening, we were out practicing and the Schumans walked by.  Courtney just learned to ride with no training wheels last week, so she showed Pax how to start on his own.  Christa and Courtney coached him for a bit, and he got it, all by himself.  He was SO proud.  He landed in the grass after a big long ride, and got up with a big thumbs-up to us.

Jumping Ghost & Spinny Horse, Superman & Climbing Tree

When I had boys, they all said, "Cancel the gym membership."

They were right, this is my (super frugal but super effective) gym membership.  Two boys who insist on an hour or more of trampoline time every day.

Pax's favorite game is Jumping Ghost (something he invented last Halloween) and Beckett loves to play "spinny horse" where I spend in the air with him on my back.  Beckett loves to flip, and they are both pretty jazzed about another game is called "Climb the tree" - another of their inventions.  They pretend they are monkeys (not a far stretch) and see how high they can get before the tree falls over.
